"I'll handle the math," I say. "You two figure out how to make it not sound insane."

It's settled. We're doing it. For the first time, Inferthermic feels real-a little terrifying, but real. Maybe this is how things start: not with a grand vision, but with three idiots and a flyer taped to a door. I close my laptop at midnight, mind racing. Tomorrow I'll tell my PI I'm taking a leave. I'll probably regret it. But if I don't do this now, I'll regret it forever. There's a new email from Marchetti waiting as I plug in my phone. It's just a single line:

Good. Now go build something worth dropping out for. I laugh, and for the first time in my life, I actually feel like I'm on the right side of the equation.
