I stare at the screen. Thirty-eight grand for what, some React and a Stripe plug-in? I scroll through the PDF. They want six grand to "customize the color palette." I could fire up a Fiverr account and get half a dozen knockoff sites for a mortgage payment. I hit forward, subject line: "lol." Maddy replies in thirty seconds: "I got a guy in Ohio who'll do it for $5k and a case of Monster. Want me to intro?" I reply "please," then close my laptop and stare at the wall for a solid minute. Never thought I'd spend more time picking homepage fonts than writing code. Never thought a company would mean scrolling through fifty pages of slogans, either. But here I am, staring at a Google Doc Maddy shared, fifty-two variations on the word "safe":
